Middle State Tennessee University Student Union

The new student union provides students with a diverse set of resources and is an anchor fo the developing “quad” on the thriving MTSU campus. The 198,000 sq. ft. facility includes student offices, a university bookstore, a food court, movie theater, a ballroom and pre-function space, as well outdoor gathering areas. A large atrium brings daylight into all 3 levels of the building and offers students flexible space to eat, study and socialize. The University and Design Team embraced campus sustainability guidelines setting an example for future projects. Lighting efficiency measures include; reduced lighting power densities, networked lighting controls and daylight harvesting. A programmable lighting control system allows users control over their spaces, but is optimized for efficiency and flexibility for the numerous programs under one roof. The project included an exterior lighting mockup that set the new standard for campus lighting, which was then used across the entire campus.
