Business Instructional Facility, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign

The Business Instructional Facility provided the College of Business at the Urbana-Champaign campus with a state of the art facility for instruction, learning, career development and gathering. The lighting design team focused on integrating interior daylight strategies with efficient electric lighting and controls. The building form was “U” shaped and faced south which allowed for effective use clerestory windows, a large atrium and day lit classrooms. The DALI based lighting control systems provided flexibility, energy savings and streamlined maintenance. The control system is programed to automatically dim and control window shades in response to daylight. It was the first business building at a public university to earn LEED Platinum Certification.
